I grew up in Pasadena, attended a technical high school where I learned manufacturing skills. Worked a short time as an apprentice machinist, and then decided to go to college, not sure of what profession to enter. I was afraid of engineering because my mathematics scores were only average, but my experience and aptitude tests showed that engineering was my best fit. I took remedial math courses and finally graduated as a Mechanical Engineer. I am still working at the first job I selected upon graduating, and I love this environment. JPL people are terrific to work with.
I have always been interested in unusual technologies, for example: steam engines (unusual now!), human powered vehicles (some of which are called bicycles), Nikola Tesla’s inventions, etc. Bicycling and photography
